Latest Version of Gemcom GEMS Delivers World's First Block Model Conversion EngineBreakthrough Engine Provides Direct Conversion, Ensures Better Collaboration, Improves Data Integrity, Saves Time (May 01, 2012)
VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- (Marketwire) -- 05/01/12 -- Gemcom Software International Inc., the largest global supplier of mining software solutions, today announced that it has released Gemcom GEMS(TM) 6.4, the latest version of its collaborative geology and mine planning software. GEMS ensures the accuracy and integrity of data for exploration, open pit, and underground operations. With a focus on data management, GEMS is used to quantify, model, plan, and schedule the extraction of mineral deposits.
The most significant feature of GEMS 6.4 is its powerful new patent-pending block model conversion engine, which is a world first and the only one of its kind in existence. The engine brings a new level of data sharing flexibility to the industry by providing direct conversion between different block model formats, delivering better collaboration and improved data integrity while saving users a great deal of time.
"Gemcom is known for innovative data capabilities, and we are proud to be bringing revolutionary new functionality to our users and the industry once again," said Justin Meade, technical product manager for GEMS. "With many mining organisations facing staff shortages, it is becoming increasingly common for collaboration to occur between site users and outside parties who may be using different software products. Thanks to the new block model conversion engine, it is possible for a user to work in one software package on a task such as resource estimation and deliver the block model in the format of another software package, while also ensuring data integrity between the two. With the engine, users will also benefit by being able to efficiently operate between multiple block model types for evaluation and processing within GEMS."
"At Midas Gold we have developed a continuous stream for our data - from the versatile GEMS Logger digital logging software to Gemcom GEMS geological modelling, and then to Whittle. With several GEMS licenses and viewers, we can be sure that everyone can be accessing the most current data and models," stated Paul Jensen, senior geologist at Midas Gold Inc. "For over seven years I have enjoyed the ability to customize and access GEMS data from the Access or SQL back-ends; this framework makes the data much more usable than other formats. We depend upon GEMS in our daily work and look forward to implementing this latest version into our operations."
In addition to the block model conversion engine, GEMS 6.4 provides many enhancements to existing features requested by its users. To further increase productivity, GEMS includes enhanced block modelling capabilities; increased line, surface, and solid import and export options; and two point transformation profiles to transform solids and surfaces.
GEMS 6.4 highlights include:
-- The interpolate and report feature allows users to work with larger datasets and use more than 100 interpolation profiles. -- Geospatial filtering is now possible through the use of clipping boundaries when importing points and lines. -- Enhanced importing support for Optech 3D rings (.xyz files), and Leapfrog mesh files. -- Esri?? Shapefiles can now be imported as points, polylines, or polygons. -- New two point transformation profile can be used to transform the coordinates of solids and surfaces from one system to another. -- Improved sorting capabilities in GEMS' production scheduler allows for more efficient scheduling.
