LaserSoft Ships SilverFast DC 6

New version with 'Virtual Light Table' designed for pro photographers By Dave Nagel
LaserSoft Imaging today announced SilverFast Digital Camera 6 with Virtual Light Table. The new release has been split into two versions, standard and professional, and gains support for pro-level SLRs and camera backs, in addition to regular consumer-level cameras. The standard version will be available today.

According to LaserSoft, the new version of SilverFast has been "adapted to the needs of the digital photographer and combines a powerful Virtual Light Table with the full functionality of SilverFast Ai with JobManager." Virtual Light Table offers features like file browsing, directory overviews, EXIF information viewing, searching, sorting, editing and processing for digital images. It also includes a job manager and special printing functions, such as contact sheets.

The new SilverFast DC also includes functionality designed specifically for digital photographers, such as Color Temperature, Exposure Control and red-eye reduction. Other features include Selective Color Correction, masking, Adaptive Color Restoration (for bringing back faded colors and normalizing saturated colors), grayscale conversion and noise and grain removal. It also uses a new QuickTime-based help system.

The professional version of SilverFast, called SilverFast DCPro-VLT, will support raw data formats of Nikon D1, Canon, Kodak DCS, DCR, ProBack, Fuji, Olympus, Minolta and Sigma digital cameras and backs.

The standard version, known as SilverFast DC-VLT, will be available today for Mac OS 9, Mac OS X and Windows for $138. SilverFast DCPro-VLT will be available in four weeks for an introductory price of $299 through May 1. After that time, it will run $399. For more information or to download a demo, visit
