Lamps Plus Catalog App Picked as Mobile App of the Year Award for Customer Experience(June 16, 2011)
Chatsworth, CA (PRWEB) June 16, 2011
LampsPlus.com, the leading online retailer of decorative lighting fixtures and accessories, announced today that it has been selected as the 2011 winner of the RIS Mobile App of the Year Award for Customer Experience. The award news was announced by the RIS at the recently concluded Retail Technology Conference. Bill Gratke, Lamps Plus Vice President of Planning and Supply Chain Management, accepted the award for Lamps Plus.
In announcing the awards, the RIS stated that, the winners of the 2011 RIS Mobile App of the Year Award are truly exceptional compared to their peers, and understanding what they are doing clearly points the way for others to follow. Judging for the awards was done by select industry experts, RIS editorial advisory board members, and the editors of RIS.
The Lamps Plus catalog app for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch, named the "Editions App", offers multiple sets of digital, interactive product catalogs that are highly visual and have multiple paths to navigate through the pages. New catalogs are made available on a regular basis, and the company plans on launching a series of digital only catalogs in the next several months. An app for the Android platform will also be released soon.
This is a great honor for us, and one that points the way to the future, noted Lamps Plus President and CEO Dennis Swanson. We really see ourselves as moving into the content publishing business, in a future where the hard lines between retail and content have become more blurred. So this is a first step for us in that direction.
About the app, the RIS stated that, The photo-rich approach is especially well suited to the iPad form factor, and the beauty of the Lamps Plus products. Full product photos are shown for each item. Many of the lighting and home décor products are shown in room scenes as well. Tapping within the app brings up additional photos, such as larger product views and extra photos with different angles and close-up views.
Some of the app content is based on printed catalog material, but is augmented by digital only material, such as buying tips and style trends. Other available content is digital only, such as a 188 page ceiling fan catalog. Within any of the apps, tapping a product brings up a page of product details and specs, along with reviews and the ability to add to cart and purchase. Other functions include search, email sharing and bump sharing.
The 2011 Awards includes recognition for Best Customer Experience, Best Shopping, Best Rich Mobile Experience and Best Mobile Enterprise and Store. Announced winners include Toys R Us for Rich Mobile Experience, The Home Depot for Enterprise and Store, and Best Buy for Best Shopping. This is the second year that the Awards have been announced. The RIS uses the mobile app awards to map the evolution of M-commerce and to recognize achievements by mobile retailers.
