LA Times editor stepping down after 4 years

Los Angeles Times: Editor will step down after 4-year tenure, replaced with managing editor By The Associated Press

LOS ANGELES (AP) ' The editor of the Los Angeles Times has stepped down after four years in the top spot.

The Times says Russ Stanton is stepping down as editor and executive vice president of the paper, effective Dec. 23.

Managing Editor Davan Maharaj will replace him.

The newspaper did not indicate whether Stanton was fired or resigned. Neither Stanton nor the paper gave a reason for the change or his future plans.

Stanton joined the Times in 1997 as a business reporter in Orange County.

While he was editor, the paper won three Pulitzer Prizes at a time when the newsroom staff was reduced from more than 900 people to about 550.
