LA Studios and Valve Win GOTY Awards for Half-Life 2(March 24, 2005)
The L.A. Studios, Inc., the nation's preeminent audio post-production company, announced today its official congratulations to Valve for winning over 30 Game of the Year Awards for Half-Life 2, including the Game Developer's Choice Awards at last week's Game Developer Conference in San Francisco, California.
The company's Cahuenga Pass facility, LA Studios, recorded the dialogue of the major Hollywood actors featured in Half-Life 2. Singled out for praise in numerous reviews, the voice work was recorded by mixer George Thompson and performed by a diverse range of stars including Robert Guillaume, Louis Gossett Jr., Robert Culp and Michelle Forbes.
With Half-Life 2, LA Studios brings its expertise in dialogue recording for animation to the game arena. The company is regularly tapped by studios including Dreamworks and Disney and its recent credits include Shrek 2, Shark Tale, The SpongeBob Squarepants Movie and the soon to be released Madagascar.
"The amount of dialogue in games is nearing that of many feature films," said Jesse Meli, President and CEO of The L.A. Studios, Inc. "Combine this with the fact that these games are played on very high quality home theater systems and you need to have an extremely well calibrated audio track that matches the stunning visuals. What we bring to the process is not just a mastery of the technical details, but years of experience working with the A-list Hollywood talent who are increasingly lending their voices to video games. George Thompson who recorded the Hollywood actors featured in Half-Life 2 is a great talent and his work is indicative of the level of excellence we bring to all of our projects."
"One of the reasons we think Half-Life 2 is creating such a stir is the quality of acting in the audio performances," said Bill Van Buren, project lead at Valve. "LA Studios' contribution to Half-Life 2 helped us surpass our hopes for creating well-rounded, original characters."
Renowned for its creative and experienced mixing talent and its client first philosophy, LA Studios is the choice for numerous celebrities, studios and production companies. Other projects that LA Studios is currently working on include King of the Hill, Lilo & Stitch II, Maggie and the Emmy-nominated Kim Possible.
