KromA Bares All for Mandalay Bay(June 28, 2004)
KromA provided image enhancement and compositing services for a new series of spots for the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. Employing the tag, ?Be yourself at home, the four ads from DRGM Advertising target adults seeking the kind of fun they cant have in their own back yards.
One spot, Mother of Three, shows the rear view of a bare-breasted woman walking into the resorts celebrated ?topless pool. Graphics identify her as an elementary school teacher. Another spot shows a man and a woman, by day sales reps for rival pharmaceutical companies, pairing up for a steamy dance in the Mandalay disco.
The spots were shot by well-known music video director Chris Applebaum with style and grace. The compositions are carefully designed, color and light are sharply drawn, given each spot a feeling of heightened reality.
KromAs team enhanced the larger than life feel by removing tiny imperfections from the picture and shapening the contract between light and shadow. For the spot CPA, about an accountant who wagers a small fortune at the craps table, the studio combined foreground and background elements from different telecine passes to give the scene more pop.
Artists helped along the illusion in Mother of Three by digitally removing the womans bikini top (worn by the actress during the production). ?It required a lot of careful paint work because her bikini straps were moving quite a bit and they cast shadows that also had to be painted out, explained KromA visual effects supervisor Bert Yukich.
Amy Yukich was executive producer for KromA.
