Kona SD Bridges DV to SDI

Version 2.0 drivers also get 64-bit codec, After Effects preview By Dave Nagel
Blackmagic Design and AJA Video Systems have released version 2.0 drivers for the Kona SD standard-definition video capture and editing board. The new version supports DV to uncompressed SDI output in real time, as well as several other functional enhancements. The drivers have also been updated to be compliant with the forthcoming Mac OS X 10.2 and are available now for free.

Kona SD 2.0 now converts DV input into uncompressed SDI output in real time. It Dv through the FireWire port and outputs to SDI instantly without the need for an SDI converter. Other new features include:

  • A new 64-bit codec for processing 16 bits per channel in applications like Adobe After Effects.
  • After Effects preview.
  • Native YUV rendering.
  • A new "Kona JPEG" for online JPEG capture and playback.

The Kona SD is AJA's first foray into the Macintosh video market and has supported Mac OS X from day 1. It's an uncompressed 10-bit PCI capture and playback card for editing and broadcast design. And it includes six channels of 48/96 kHz AES/EBU audio. It sells for $3,295.

The Kona SD 2.0 update is free for current Kona users. Registered users will be notified via e-mail about how to download the software today. For more information, visit http://www.blackmagic-design.com or http://www.aja.com.
