Kona SD Board Gets Mac OS X 10.2 Support

Drivers get performance boost from new OS By Dave Nagel
AJA's Kona SD standard-def video editing and capture board now supports Mac OS X 10.2, according to Blackmagic Design, the company that develops the drivers for the board. The company also says the board will see a performance boost under 10.2. The updated drivers are available now.

Blackmagic says the Kona SD takes full advantage of the new Quartz Extreme technology in Mac OS X 10.2, which was released last week. The updated OS allows the card to display real-time updates of capture, playback and certain effects.

The Kona SD is an uncompressed 10-bit PCI video card designed for editing and design on Mac OS X. Some features include:
  • Real-time capture to Offline RT motion JPEG files for Apple Final Cut Pro;
  • Six channels of 48/96 kHz AES/EBU digital audio with sample rate conversion on each input;
  • Fully digital SDI connections;
  • Multi-format analog options;
  • Software codecs for Mac OS X and Mac OS 9.
  • The Kona SD is available now for $3,295. The Kona SD 2.1 software, required for operation in Mac OS X 10.2, is available now for free for current users. For more information, visit or
