Kodak To Make Tender Offer for Chinon

Unified Kodak Digital Product Development Center planned By Dave Nagel
Kodak will make a tender offer to purchase all common shares of Chinon Industries, a maker of digital cameras. The company says the move will help further its development of cameras and accessories for its "digitally oriented growth strategy." The move would give Kodak full ownership of Chinon.

Chinon was established in 1948 and currently researches, develops and manufactures digital cameras. At present, Kodak is Chinon's largest customer, accounting for almost all of Chinon's revenues in its latest fiscal year. Chinon's board of directors has passed a resolution supporting Kodak's tender offer, which is expected to close Feb. 26.

Following the deal, Kodak says it will merge its Digital Camera Research and Development center with Chinon to form the Kodak Digital Product Development Center, a move designed to improve efficiencies related to consumer digital camera manufacturing. No specific plans for future products have yet been announced.
