Kitware Announces the Release of KiwiViewer in the Apple App Store(August 24, 2011)
Clifton Park, NY (PRWEB) August 24, 2011
Kitware, one of the fastest growing open-source companies in the country, today announced the release of a free, interactive application for the exploration of geometric datasets in the Apple App Store.
This new application, named KiwiViewer, allows users to access 3D datasets from email attachments or through Dropbox and easily pan, zoom and rotate with intuitive multi-touch gestures on an iPad.
We are very excited to be expanding our cross-platform solutions to mobile devices, said Brad Davis, a technical leader at Kitware. KiwiViewer is Kitwares first application designed exclusively for a mobile device, and we are actively working to port existing toolkits, such as VTK, onto mobile platforms.
Built on top of Kitwares new VES toolkit to support OpenGL ES rendering and multi-touch interaction, and portions of VTK for data loading and filtering, KiwiViewer can load STL, OBJ and VTK surface geometry files. Kitware is currently working with several commercial customers to develop additional functionality and customized mobile applications.
Kitware plans to release both VES and the KiwiViewer application as open source by the end of 2011. In addition to the open-source release, Kitware hopes to expand KiwiViewer onto additional mobile platforms such as the iPhone and Android-based devices.
Kitware will be attending MICCAI from September 18-23 in Toronto, and VisWeek from October 23-28 in Providence, where the company will be highlighting KiwiViewer and providing demonstrations. If you would like to arrange a meeting at either of these events to discuss mobile computing projects or KiwiViewer, please contact Kitware at kitware(at)kitware(dot)com.
KiwiViewer development is supported in part by Kitware and the National Alliance for Medical Image Computing (NAMIC).
