Kaydara Intros New Character Animation Features with FiLMBOX 3.2

By DMN Staff Writer
Kaydara Inc. announced the release of FiLMBOX 3.2, the next evolution of the company's real-time 3D character animation solution.

With an enhanced user interface and workflow, FiLMBOX 3.2 introduces a host of new features offering 3D artists a complete solution for both keyframe and motion-capture-based character animation for game, film, TV, and Web productions.

"The development philosophy behind FiLMBOX is to make existing 3D animation pipelines more efficient," said Laurent Ruel, product manager for Kaydara. "With FiLMBOX 3.2, we continue to build on this commitment with faster and more precise animation tools which now support complete character animation, including full body, facial and hand animations."

FiLMBOX 3.2 includes a variety of new character animation and workflow enhancements including:
  • Facial Animation: new facial mapping and animation tools greatly simplify the process of extracting motion-capture data, facial keyframing, and phoneme recognition
  • Global Timeline: new flexible visual keyframes allow users to instantly edit the timing of any animation
  • Enhanced Tools: better control within the character animation tool using control sets for individual body parts, improved interface on the motion-blending tools, and an optimized Macromedia Flash renderer

"FiLMBOX 3.2 has major improvements in the areas of motion editing and character animation," said Brad Clark, a 3D animator at Acclaim Entertainment. "The major enhancements that I love are the ability to edit keys directly in the timeline, as well as the streamlining of the motion-blending tool for two-man edits and faster editing. With this release of FiLMBOX, it is becoming easier to focus on the performance of the motion being edited instead of focusing on the software. As an animator, these improvements will go a long way towards making my life easier."

FiLMBOX 3.2 also natively supports Kaydara's FBX, a powerful interchange format for 3D data that allows FiLMBOX to become the hub of any digital character pipeline.

Pricing and Availability FiLMBOX 3.2 is currently available for a base price of US$5,000, and supports Microsoft Windows XP, Microsoft Windows 2000, Apple OS X, sgi IRIX, and RedHat Linux operating systems.
