Just Another Con Job

When and if you need a con(sultant)? By Max Kopsho
I spent this past week and a half trying the 101 different ways to prepare leftover turkey (turkey malts and turkey jello are my favorites) and reflecting on the things for which I am thankful. Of course I came up with the fact that one of the things I am thankful for is my job.

Then I started to wonder exactly why it is I have a job. I realize almost half of what I do is focused on consultant business. Then I break it down even more: what does a consultant do? And when does a consumer need a consultant? Does a System Integrator need a consultant? Lets look for some of the answers to these questions. (Read on and well open this can of worms together)

What does a consultant do? When I am talking about consultants, Im referring to the purists if you will, the independent design consultant. These consultants dont sell any of the equipment they specify into a design. They are used to consult with an owner on their communications needs, develop the facility infrastructure and systems design and typically manage the implementation of such a design.
