WACO, Texas (AP) ' A federal jury has started deliberating in the trial of a Muslim soldier accused of planning to bomb a Texas restaurant filled with Fort Hood troops.
Army Pfc. Naser Jason Abdo faces up to life in prison if convicted of attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction and five other charges.
Authorities detained Abdo in the Fort Hood area last July while he was AWOL from Fort Campbell, Ky., his post. Prosecutors say he had begun making a bomb in the Killeen motel room where he was staying.
Zach Boyd, Abdo's lead attorney, said during closing arguments Thursday that Abdo should be acquitted because his plan never progressed beyond preparation.
