Judge permits Bronx church to meet at NYC school

NY judge permits church to worship at NY public school despite appeals court ruling banning it By The Associated Press

NEW YORK (AP) ' A federal judge has ruled that a tiny Bronx church can continue to meet for religious services at a New York City public school as it has for the last decade.

The order by Judge Loretta Preska on Thursday prompted the city law office to say the city will immediately appeal the ruling.

The order allows the Bronx Household of Faith to continue staging its Sunday services in a public school despite a city law prohibiting the practice. The order appears to defy a federal appeals court ruling that has already upheld the city ban. The U.S. Supreme Court has declined to hear the case. But Preska said the church was likely to win on its challenges to the law on Constitutional grounds.
