Josh Thacker Promoted To Editor At Fischer EditThacker added to company's editorial roster (December 01, 2005)
Following the company's long tradition of promoting talent from within, Fischer Edit has named Josh Thacker as Editor. After several years as Assistant Editor, Thacker has been added to the company's editorial roster, which includes Brett Astor, Randy Kramer, Brian Slater and Tim Taylor. The announcement was made today by Fischer Edit Owner/Executive Producer Tony Fischer.
"Josh Thacker is the epitome of the next-generation talent," notes Tony Fischer. "He means so much to this company, in terms of keeping it fresh of new ideas and taking on new challenges. If there were a Class of 2005, Josh, Editor Brian Slater and our 3D artist Nick Hansen would all be part of it. That is because of the diversity and versatility of their skills. Disciplines such as music, design, art and film all used to be separate. But with the advance of the Internet and evolution of television and advertising, these disciplines have all converged. Josh is a talent whose skills and interests are limitless, and that is apparent in his work for clients."
Josh Thacker's passion for editing began in college, during his senior year, when his school purchased Final Cut Pro 1.0. Having learned tape-to-tape editing the previous year, the non-linear method seemed like a dream come true, according to Josh. From the very first time he sat down to learn the way of non-linear, he was hooked. Josh received a Bachelor's Degree in Communication at Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon. He began his industry career as an Assistant Editor at Ibex Communications in Portland, while still in school. When he returned to Minneapolis after college, he took a position as Assistant Colorist at postproduction company HI-WIRE where he worked closely with Colorist Oscar Oboza. In 2003, Josh joined the Fischer Edit team as Assistant Editor. Working nights and weekends, Josh says that's how he learned the ropes.
"Moving to Fischer Edit is one of the best choices I've made to date," says Editor Josh Thacker. "I began taking advantage of all the tools that were available after hours. I started shooting short films, and editing them in Avid. In addition to editing, my directing career has taken off, which is great, considering the fact that it all started with me shooting my own footage so that I'd have something to edit. I've also had time, while assisting, to become proficient in Adobe After Effects. It's all part of my goal to become as well rounded as I can be."
Recent projects completed by Thacker include editorial for a music video "This Time it Will" for Jeff Hanson, a music artist signed to Kill Rock Stars. Additionally, he has edited two music videos "My Favorite Accident," and "The Future Freaks Me Out," for Motion City Soundtrack, who is signed to Epitaph. Josh's Directing credits include: Sound Unseen Film Festival Trailer (Fischer Edit), Freschetta Pizza (GDB), MN Lottery (Colle + McVoy), Guthrie Theater (Kerker), and Donatos Pizza (Martin Williams).
