Jamaican drug lord faces sentencing in US case

Maximum term sought in US for Jamaican drug lord arrested in 2010 wearing curly black wig By The Associated Press

NEW YORK (AP) ' Prosecutors want the maximum 23-year prison term for a Jamaican drug lord who pleaded guilty to U.S. charges of drug and gun trafficking.

Christopher Coke was wearing a wig as a disguise when he was captured in Jamaica in 2010. A bloody siege of his stronghold in a slum west of Kingston left more than 70 dead.

The 43-year-old Coke was extradited to federal court in Manhattan. He pleaded guilty last year and faces sentencing on Friday.

Coke has written the judge to describe all the good deeds he did for slum-dwellers and to ask for mercy. But prosecutors say he deserves a harsh punishment for terrorizing anyone who interfered with his drug operation.
