Jackhammers used in search for missing NYC boyWorkers with jackhammers excavate basement in search for NYC boy missing since 1979
NEW YORK (AP) ' Investigators were ripping up the basement floor of a Manhattan building in a hunt for the remains of a 6-year-old boy who disappeared on his way to school in 1979.
The space being excavated Friday was about a block from the bus stop where Etan Patz (EH'-tahn payts) was headed when he vanished.
At the time, the basement was being used as a workshop by Othniel Miller, a neighborhood handyman who had been friendly with the family.
Police and FBI officials haven't named a suspect in the case.
Miller's lawyer told journalists gathered at the 75-year-old's Brooklyn home Friday that his client had "no involvement in this tragic event."
