Jack Dorsey to Mentor High School Students via Video Chat

Silicon Valley Nonprofit BUILD Hosts Chat With Jack Using TokBox (February 28, 2012)

REDWOOD CITY, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 02/28/12 -- Jack Dorsey, founder of Twitter and Square, will be hosting a video-mentoring session on Tuesday, February 28th, as part of an initiative to foster entrepreneurship among disengaged high school students.

Dorsey will be partnering with BUILD, a Silicon Valley-based non-profit that promotes college readiness via entrepreneurship education. Using TokBox video technology, Dorsey will host the chat on BUILD's web site, encouraging students from the Bay Area and Boston to ask questions and learn about entrepreneurship.

Dorsey sits on the national board of BUILD, which works in partnership with high school students and businesses to provide an innovative and experiential learning program. It's the only nonprofit in the country that works with not only disadvantaged, but also highly disengaged students, and promises to propel them to high school graduation eligible and ready for college. To date, 100% of BUILD seniors have graduated from high school, and more than 90% have gone on to college.

"There are many college programs available, but BUILD's use of entrepreneurship is very unique and compelling. It has a transformational impact that propels students who haven't been given a fair shot with the skills they need to succeed academically as well as professionally," said Jack Dorsey, Executive Chairman of Twitter and CEO of Square. BUILD is the only non-profit Board on which Dorsey sits.

"The chat with Jack is a way for the students to be inspired and learn from one of our country's highest profile and most accomplished entrepreneurs," said BUILD founder and CEO Suzanne McKechnie Klahr. "We have seen through the BUILD program that mentoring and access to great entrepreneurs helps inspire BUILD students academically as well as throughout their career."

The video chat is scheduled for Tuesday, February 28th, at 4:30 p.m. PST. It is open to anyone.

To join the chat, simply visit and click "Join the chat." Attendees will have the opportunity to ask Jack questions about BUILD and entrepreneurship.

In addition to the video chat, BUILD is hosting a Gala on Friday, March 23, at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, CA. Tickets can be reserved at

Founded in 1999, BUILD is a four-year college preparation program whose mission is to use entrepreneurship to excite and propel disengaged, low-income youth through high school to college success. By helping students develop and run their own small businesses, BUILD supplements traditional school with real-world business experiences and critical skill-building for the future. BUILD currently serves nearly 900 students and operates high school programs in the San Francisco Bay Area, Boston and Washington DC. For more information visit:
