JVCs HX Projector Used ?On-Set Of Digital Feature FilmHX Series projector used for on-location screenings of digital dailies and rushes (March 29, 2005)
MotionFX, specialists in digital cinematography, VFX, 2D & 3D animation, graphics and motion control, have invested in a JVC HX Series digital projector for viewing digital dailies and rushes for the worlds first 100% digital cinematography feature film, ?Silence Becomes You, directed by Stephanie Sinclair, starring Alicia Silverstone and Sienna Guillory. The HX Series projector and a 10-foot portable projection screen was provided to Motion FX by Kaurus Ltd, specialists in projection, viewing and grading suites. The film was shot in Lithuania in late 2004 with post-production in the UK. ?Silence Becomes You is a psychological thriller, produced by Dragonfly Films in collaboration with MotionFX and Digital Praxis.
Steve Shaw, Digital Film Consultant at Digital Praxis comments, ?Footage was shot in an uncompressed 1920 x 1080, 4:4:4 RGB Log 2.37 operation. The days rushes were viewed as dailies via the JVC D-ILA projector providing immediate feedback on the days shooting. The HX Series projector incorporates 3-chip D-ILA technology and is ideal for screening and critical colour analysis. It reproduces rich colour with a high contrast of 1500:1. Images are smooth and natural in a true 16:9 aspect ratio of 1,400 x 788 resolution. It weights only 5.9 kilos and is compact in size for portability.
Shaw adds, ?The use of the ?dailies review via JVC HX Series digital projection is a major benefit. It allows the production operation to see the progression of the film, whilst making sure that all material is as expected and needed. The quality of the images were outstanding.
John OQuigley, Operations Director of Motion FX claims ?This is a stunning on-set viewing solution that works well for everybody. The rushes from our uncompressed 4:4:4 Digital Film Acquisition via the Thomson Viper look spectacular when using this lightweight unit. To be able to instantly show very high quality HD that simply looks great at the end of each day for sign-off on shots is fantastic. JVC have certainly produced quality and value for money at the same time with the HX series.
