JNI Features Two Speakers At Fibre Channel Technologies Conference 2001(October 16, 2001)
In addition, the company is showing its 2 Gb Ready FibreStar host bus adapters in a full-speed, switched fabric 2 Gb storage area network (SAN), as well as a full-speed demonstration of its native mode PCI-X (133 MHz) host bus adapter under development.
Vice President of Marketing, Shaun Walsh, will be a featured panelist at the "Evolving Transport Panel" at 8:30 a.m. (PT) Tuesday, Oct. 16. Vice President of Business Development, Frank Bellucci, will be a featured panelist on the "Future of Fibre Channel" panel at 8:30 a.m. (PT) on Wednesday, Oct. 17. Both panels will discuss current Fibre Channel industry developments, as well as future storage network technologies such as InfiniBand and iSCSI.

The Fibre Channel Technologies Conference 2001 focuses on storage network-related issues on both a broad based and detailed level. Issues discussed include impact of of higher clock rate technologies, demand for greater bandwidth, concern with quality of service and fault tolerance, meeting the needs of real-time applications including video and multimedia, and requirements for effective and cost-efficient storage network upgrading, maintenance, and management.
JNI will also feature demonstrations of current and future products during the exhibition portion of FCTC 2001 in Booth 404. JNI will show its 2 Gb-enabled FCC-6460 CompactPCI in a Sun Microsystems 3800 attached to a 2 Gb switch and 2 Gb storage array, all of which are available on the market, today. In addition, JNI will show a technology demonstration of its PCI-X host bus adapter running at 133 MHz, the first HBA to show full-speed PCI-X operation in native mode. This offer a clear advantage in performance and throughput over PCI-X solutions developed using bridge chips.
The FCC-6460 uses the same drivers as JNI's other 2 Gb Ready HBAs, the FCE-6460 PCI bus HBA and FCE-1473 SBus HBA. They are among the industry's first 2 Gb HBAs to be qualified for use in 2 Gb or 1 Gb Fibre Channel environments by major storage manufacturers.
The new 2 Gb Ready HBAs offer the same high performance and enterprise reliability of the industry's first 2 Gb Fibre Channel HBA, which debuted in May 1999. At 2 Gb speed, the FibreStar CompactPCI HBA offers peak throughput performance of up to 400 megabytes-per-second (MB) in full-duplex mode, approximately 200 MB in half-duplex. On demand 1 or 2 Gb auto rate negotiation enables a smooth and automatic migration path to 2 Gb-enabled storage networks by operating in 1 Gb, 2 Gb or mixed 1 Gb and 2 Gb Fibre Channel environments. Widespread deployment of 2 Gb Fibre Channel infrastructure is expected to take place in 2002.
