Iowa visit offers opportunities to Chinese leader

Iowa visit offers Chinese vice president chance to build relationships, agricultural business By The Associated Press

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) ' The vice president of China is spending a good deal of his U.S. trip in Iowa, a state better known for hosting American presidential candidates than major heads of state. So why is this rural place playing such a major role his historic tour of the United States?

The answer lies in the way Xi Jinping (shee jeen ping) likes to do business ' by building personal relationships ' and in Iowa's rich agricultural industry, which is closely tied to China's.

Xi will visit the small farming town of Muscatine on Wednesday and spend time in Des Moines attending a state dinner. He also plans to launch the first U.S.-China Agriculture Symposium, and he's set aside time to tour a farm.
