Iomega Ships New Portable Mac Drives120 GB external models to debut in May
The new portable drives are available in capacities of 20 GB and 30 GB and include switchable USB 2.0 and FireWire interfaces. They offer transfer rates as high as 21 MB per second and are designed to withstand drops from as high as 50 inches. (See Iomega's site for specifics.)
The external desktop models will include 40 GB, 80 GB and 120 GB models. The models support USB 2.0 and FireWire specifications and are housed in a case similar to (but slightly larger than) the portable models.
The 20 GB portable model sells for $199 (USB 2.0) or $229 (FireWire). The 30 GB model sells for $259 (USB 2.0) or $349 (FireWire). The Iomega HDD External Hard Drive is expected to be available in May. Configurations include the Iomega HDD 40 GB USB 2.0 External Hard Drive with a suggested list price of $199; the Iomega HDD 80 GB USB 2.0 External Hard Drive, $299; and the Iomega HDD 120 GB USB 2.0 External Hard Drive, $349. FireWire configurations of the Iomega HDD 80GB External Hard Drive and the Iomega HDD 120GB External Hard Drive will be available for $329 and $379, respectively.
