Investigators probe death in Nev. tunnel accidentNevada OSHA probes death of construction worker killed in Lake Mead tunnel accident
LAS VEGAS (AP) ' Nevada safety regulators are investigating a construction accident that killed one worker and injured another in a water supply tunnel being built at Lake Mead.
An official for the Nevada Occupational Safety and Health Administration say a state OSHA investigator has visited the 3-foot-diameter tunnel where the accident occurred about 4:30 p.m. Monday near the Lake Mead National Recreation Area.
Carrie Foley, executive assistant to the state OSHA director, says she can't comment any further because it's an open investigation.
The tunnel is part of a troubled effort to drill a new drinking water supply line to the lake's reservoir. Officials for the Southern Nevada Water Authority say some material became loose in the tunnel and pressure sent grout flying through the air.
