Integration Procrastination

Should I wait before I integrate my boardroom? By Max Kopsho
"To wait or not to wait? That is the question. Are we in a buyers market when it comes to system integration? With the economic slowdown as an Integrated Systems prospective customer, the world is my oyster, right? Not necessarily. Although as an industry we are feeling the sting of the slow down in some areas, there are segments that are actually flourishing in these times. Some system integrators are reaping the benefits of being in the right segment at the right time. Some analysts are reporting growth at up to 35% for some integrators.

So, from a buyers perspective, what can I look forward to when Im looking for a system solution? What should I do to determine whether I need a system solution or not? Well, lets use a typical transaction that most people have had the wonderful experience of being a part of, the purchase of a car. When one is in the market for a car there are certain steps they follow to get to the final decision of actually buying the car. We will look at these steps one by one and then apply them to an integrated solution purchase.

Here are the three steps to a successful purchase:

Step 1: Needs Analysis
Step 2: Shop, Test, And Negotiate
Step 3: After Sale Considerations

(*Disclaimer: I understand that there maybe several holes in this process when it is applied to specific scenarios, but I believe the general outline is sound)

Lets break down the steps.
