Innobits Releases BitVice 1.3.1

MPEG encoder gets improved speeds, batch processing By Dave Nagel
Innobits has released a BitVice 1.3.1, an update to the company's MPEG-2 encoder, as well as a "Lite" version of the software. Both are available now for Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X.

BitVice is a variable bitrate encoder that produces MPEG-2 video files for use with DVD authoring applications, such as Apple's DVD Studio Pro. The new version adds several new features, including multiprocessor support; enhancements to the encoder, such as improved RGB/YUV transformations; batch processing; improved vertical resolution of progressive images in interlaced mode; new options, such as noise dithering, soft filters and deinterlacing; a fixed GOP option for multi-angle DVDs; user-definable settings; and pulldown for creating 29.97 FPS NTSC video from film sources.

BitVice Lite offers several of the same features but does not offer pulldown, batch processing, fixed GOP, spatial filters or DVNC noise cancellation.

BitVice and BitVice Lite are available for Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X. The full version sells for $297 and is a free update for current users. The Lite version runs $56. For more information or to download a demo, visit
