Infrasoft Wins British Computer Society Award for Virtual Railway Project

Product allows pre-construction railway design, analysis (December 10, 2001)
Infrasoft Corporation, a global supplier of IT solutions for civil engineering, announced today it has received a prestigious IT Award from the British Computer Society (BCS). Infrasoft, in conjunction with program managers Bechtel and the Thameslink 2000 project, was given the honor in recognition of its Virtual Railway project.

Virtual Railway allows experts working on stations, track, overhead power lines, substations, civil engineering and signalling, to work efficiently from a common database, with proposed changes quickly available to everyone on the project. A project can be completely designed and analyzed prior to any construction. Infrasoft's sophisticated 3D modeling and visualization technology is the foundation of this 'virtual railway'. This streamlined process delivers significant progress in design integration, safety standards, driveablity and ease of construction. The team is now planning a 3D simulation of the entire Thameslink 2000 national rail network.

The British Computer Society IT Awards program is now in its 29th year, and is one of the longest running initiatives of its kind. The BCS Awards serve to recognize innovation and originality by Information Technology (IT) users, vendors, suppliers and researchers, often working in partnership. The Awards program is designed to honor significant developments that have come to fruition in the past year, and are predominantly based in the UK.

In previous years, the BCS has recognized IT landmarks in their earliest stages, from packet switching and teletext to online learning and eCommerce. Past winners of the IT Award include British Aerospace for the autonomous design system for the Giotto spacecraft; British Telecom for Prestel; the National Physical Laboratory for its work on packet switching; University College, London for the development of the parallel image processor; and McLaren International/TAG Electronic Systems for the Marlboro McLaren F-1 Racing Car.

Infrasoft is a leading player in the civil engineering software market, specializing in road, rail and air design applications for government and consulting engineers involved in infrastructure and the environment. Infrasoft's core technology - MXROAD, MXRENEW and MXRAIL is used by over 6,000 engineers in more than 60 countries and runs within the three most popular environments Windows, AutoCAD and MicroStation.
