InDesign Gets Import, Text Improvements

Extensions fix Excel import, optical kerning issues By Dave Nagel
Adobe has released updates to its page-layout application InDesign. The updates include new filters and patches that address a few issues with version 2.0.2 in the way of import and kerning. These updates are available now free for current users.

Included in the updates is a patch for fixing some issues with text, including optical kerning in text containing multiple fonts and point sizes. Also, with the new fix, when optical kerning is applied, spacing will remain constant whether the font is loaded before or after the document is opened. The patch also addresses an issue when importing a Microsoft Word or RTF document that uses system fonts with bold or italic styling applied.

Adobe has also released a separate filter that fixes an import problem with Microsoft Excel documents. The fix addresses specific issues with European number separators.

Both updates are available now for Macintosh and Windows. For more information or to download the updates, visit
