Impulse Point Offers Simple One-Step Process for On-Ramping Mobile Devices Onto Secure Wireless

SafeConnect v5.1 Now Offers Cloudpath Networks' XpressConnect "WPA2-Enterprise/802.1X On-Ramping" Functionality for Unrivalled Security and Enhanced User Experience as a Standard Option (April 26, 2011)

TAMPA, FL -- (Marketwire) -- 04/26/11 -- Impulse Point, provider of the industry's most scalable and easiest to deploy and maintain Network Access Control (NAC) solution, today announced its partnership with Cloudpath Networks. Cloudpath's XpressConnect™ is now offered with Impulse Point's SafeConnect™ Network Access Control (NAC) Version 5.1 solution. The benefit to customers is the ability to provide a simple, one-step on-ramping process for securing a wide array of mobile computing devices, including Apple iOS (iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch), Android, Windows, Mac and Ubuntu devices. The combination of XpressConnect and SafeConnect accelerates deployment time, reduces help desk support costs, and improves the registration experience for "Bring-Your-Own-Device" (BYOD) users.

With the dramatic growth in personally-owned mobile devices, the ability to deliver secure WPA2-Enterprise wireless access in a self-service model has become a critical business requirement. The combination of Impulse Point's SafeConnect and Cloudpath's XpressConnect provides a unique solution to address the problem of configuring, authorizing, and verifying compliance of these devices without IT involvement.

Simple, Secure Wireless Registration
The XpressConnect module for SafeConnect automates the transition of the user device to a secure 802.1X wired or WPA2-Enterprise wireless network. The customizable wizard ensures that users are connected quickly and effortlessly to the secure network without technical assistance. During this simple, one-step process, XpressConnect can install the SafeConnect NAC Policy Key to ensure the device is fully prepared for the secure network. The XpressConnect Network Wizard is an industry-first solution for providing an exceptional user experience with a cost-effective and standards-compliant secured network.

SafeConnect v5.1 also features extended "MAC Address Awareness" capabilities using DHCP and RADIUS accounting to provide reliable, consistent, and real-time MAC Address-to-IP correlation to support persistent authentication of mobile devices. The introduction of device registration offers clients the ability to easily classify and define policy groups by MAC Address within the SafeConnect system. End users can now self-register their mobile devices automatically and receive a "one-time authentication" policy, if desired.

"The University of Rhode Island has benefitted immensely from Impulse Point's seamless integration with Cloudpath," said Mike Khalfayan, associate director of information security for the University of Rhode Island. "Previously we faced a huge challenge to find a solution that struck a delicate balance between granting students rapid network access; maintaining network integrity and security; and implementation and support costs. Within two weeks of deploying SafeConnect and XpressConnect, more than 58 percent of our students have voluntarily adopted the more secure connection."

"We spent a lot of time evaluating our options," said Chad Burnham, network planner for the University of Denver. "Our decision to go with Impulse Point was in part because of their flexibility to work in our heterogeneous and open computing environment. We transitioned from Xirrus to Aruba without any issues, for example. We also leveraged Impulse Point's integration capability with Cloudpath to help us successfully achieve our vision of deploying our secure WPA2-Enterprise/802.1x wireless strategy. Impulse Point met the challenge!"

"We are pleased to expand XpressConnect's services to SafeConnect customers, so they can begin to reap the benefits of a simplified, yet powerful, WPA2-Enterprise wireless on-ramping solution. Impulse Point and Cloudpath share the same passion for providing their clients with a superior user experience and customer support," said Kevin Koster, president of Cloudpath.

"The integration of XpressConnect within SafeConnect is a natural fit for our customers who are looking to transition their end user communities to a more secure wireless network environment," said Dennis Muley, president, Impulse Point. "Our partnership with Cloudpath Networks is consistent with our go-to-market strategy to deliver comprehensive solutions in conjunction with our best-of-breed partners."
