I.R.I.S. OCR Technology Integrated into Adobe

(September 26, 2006)
DMN Newswire--2006-9-26--I.R.I.S. Group, leader in Intelligent Document Recognition (IDR), Electronic Document Management (EDM) and Optical Character Recognition (OCR) announced today the integration of its OCR technology into the Adobe Acrobat 8 software product line. Adobe is the world's leading provider of software solutions to create, manage and deliver high-impact, reliable digital content. Over the years, the Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) has become the standard for electronic document exchange. This new announcement is an extension of the agreement concluded between both companies at the beginning of this year.

?The ability to quickly and accurately search PDF documents is a critical functionality for our Acrobat customers around the world, Kevin M. Lynch, vice president of marketing, Knowledge Worker Business Unit, Adobe. ?The addition of I.R.I.S. OCR technology into the Acrobat 8 product line means we will now be able to provide knowledge workers significantly stronger paper-to-digital capabilities. Along with other Acrobat 8 innovations in the areas of creating and combining disparate document types, the addition of I.R.I.S. technology will help us enable customers to more easily and reliably communicate and collaborate with confidence.

Under this technological and commercial agreement, Adobe is integrating the iDRS (IRIS Developer Reading System), available for Windows, Macintosh and Linux platforms, within the Adobe PDF Scan Library, Adobe PDF generation kit for third parties. Adobe is also integrating the I.R.I.S. OCR technology into its new version of Acrobat.

The Acrobat 8 product line, including text recognition, consists of Acrobat 8 Professional; Acrobat 8 Standard; Acrobat 8 Elements and Acrobat 3D Version 8.

?We are pleased to continue this partnership with Adobe, extending the capabilities of the Paper Capture feature in Acrobat 8, stated Dr. Pierre De Muelenaere, president and CEO of I.R.I.S. ?The addition of I.R.I.S. advanced OCR technology will allow Acrobat 8 customers to create searchable PDF files from scanned documents more quickly, accurately, and reliably. The I.R.I.S. OCR technology included in Acrobat 8 supports a wide range of languages and lexicons giving the Adobe customer extraordinary paper-to-PDF conversion capabilities.
