ICIA Certifies Five CompaniesStatus Demonstrates Commitment to Education and Excellence in AV Industry (December 19, 2001)
ICIAs Certified Member Program requires standardized testing of audiovisual knowledge and skills in order to demonstrate mastery of techniques and technical knowledge. Members who pass certification testing must also agree to a code of ethics before receiving their status. Certification in the audiovisual industry is increasingly becoming the indicator used to measure expertise as well as to show an overall commitment to excellence in the industry. Customers seeking competent service providers for demanding and complex AV systems integration and installation projects often need some measure or standard that gives them confidence in their choice of vendors and the ICIA Certified Member designation bestows just this kind of credibility.
AVQs Managing Director Geoff McAuley explains, "Whereas defined qualifications are normal practice in other disciplines, such as building, security systems, electrical contracting, etc., architects and design consultants have hitherto been unable to verify that the chosen AV specialist has the necessary credentials to ensure expected quality standards. We are therefore delighted to have been able to enroll on a training schedule with an organization like ICIA that helps us convey to clients our commitment to raising and maintaining high industry standards."
Spencer Bullins, CTS, Chairman of ICIA and President of Long Communications Group in Winston-Salem, NC said that the award is increasingly sought after by audiovisual companies. "Not only is the award roster quickly filling up with names, we are now instituting a certification renewal process for those companies that have already received the designation."
ICIA member companies qualify for Certified Member status if 50 percent of their sales or technical staff, or 20 employees, hold a valid general or specialized ICIA certification. To date, over 45 companies have attained the Certified Member Award.
