IAFT Offers One-Year Immersion Program For Filmmakers

Students interested in film & television production can apply now for admissions for 2006 sessions (December 22, 2005)

The International Academy of Film and Television (IAFT) will offer a One-Year Immersion Program to aspiring filmmakers from around the world, announced Kacy Andrews, Chief Executive Officer of the International Academy of Film and Television.

The year long course will consist of five 9-week sessions with a new group of students starting Session One every two months and the previous group moving on to Session Two, and so on. New sessions in 2006 will begin on January 16, March 27, June 5, August 14 and October 23. January 13, 2006 is the last day of registration for the session beginning January 16.

Located in the heart of Asia in Cebu, Philippines, the IAFT campus combines the best of two worlds -- state-of-the-art filmmaking facilities and a wonderful beachside lifestyle.

The newly constructed 8,200 square-meter facility boasts soundstages, Recording and Foley studios, a Dolby-certified sound mixing theatre, and Final Cut Pro digital editing suites. Dormitory housing and first-rate amenities like a cafe, pool, gymnasium and spa are also in the pipeline to ensure a self-contained enclave that is conducive for learning.

?With its accessibility to spectacular beaches coupled with the low cost of living, the IAFT brings Hollywood filmmaking to a tropical paradise setting, said Andrews.

Small class sizes will ensure more attention and personalized training for the students. This program will provide courses ranging from basic to advanced levels. Students will be required to write, produce and direct a final project at the culmination of the program to showcase all the skills they have learned during the year. During the third session, students can choose elective courses allowing them to specialize in selected areas of filmmaking.

Under the direction of industry professionals from Hollywood and other major film capitals, students will have the opportunity to take filmmaking courses in cinematography, directing, editing, producing, screenwriting and sound design. The academys philosophy is to combine both theory and real-world applications to create a hands-on approach for students.

In addition, the IAFT will offer a unique internship program for exemplary students to work on film and television projects with its sister company Bigfoot Productions. This will help them create a professional reel for their portfolio.

The tuition fees for the One-Year Immersion Program are US $5,000 for local Filipino students and US $8,000 for international students.

Founded in 2003, The International Academy of Film and Television has been offering copious workshops that were specifically created to introduce students to the basics of filmmaking. It has conducted corporate training programs with Philippine media conglomerate ABS-CBN and has graduated more than 300 students in just over a year. In the next 12 months, the IAFT plans on conducting various short term workshops on acting, animation, editing, underwater photography, sound design, guerilla filmmaking,
directing a documentary, dancing and singing.

The One-Year Immersion Program is just one of many opportunities that IAFT offers to future filmmakers around the world.
