I-SPY Something Not Beginning with Angry Birds

  (May 06, 2011)

(PRWEB) May 06, 2011

A survey1 released today by RAC has revealed that, even in the current digital age, traditional car game such as I-Spy and the Number Plate Game are still being played by over a third (40%) of all British families on journeys.

Interestingly, the survey found that despite the overwhelming success of Angry Birds, which is played by over 40 million active users2, just one in ten (11%) Brits are using the electronic puzzle game as a means of keeping their families and passengers entertained on trips.

RAC have also revealed the top 3 most stressful aspects of car journeys as:
1.)    Traffic jams - 55%
2.)    High fuel prices - 14%
3.)    Breaking down - 13.8%

To ensure both kids and parents get the most out of their journeys, RAC has launched, a place for sharing fantastic journeys the route, the pictures and the memories. The site also has handy tips for cost efficient ways of keeping kids entertained on long journeys.

Nick Giles, head of marketing for RAC, comments: We have a vested interest in all parts of peoples journeys and feel its great to see that traditional car games such as I-Spy and the Number Plate Game still have their place in our family journeys. Parents appear to be prioritising family interaction over long journeys. However we feel the rise of portable electronic entertainment as more and more inevitable. Over the past year weve seen a massive rise in the number cars fitted with portable TVs and the numbers of app and game enabled devices being taken on trips.

Part of the reason weve launched is to ensure that all journeys are as pleasurable and memorable as possible. On the site weve provided advice as to how families can keep their children entertained, and we hope that the public will join us in sharing their top tips.

Also to alleviate the stress induced by traffic jams, RAC has produced the RAC Traffic and RAC Traffic Plus apps for both iPhone and Android Smartphones. For further information visit

The new site will provide a substantial insight into the nations journey by allowing people to upload their routes, adding in additional details such as stops that were made along the way and what the purpose of the trip is (e.g. a lazy Sunday drive, family trip to Scotland etc.). They will be able to chart the people they meet along the way and even incorporate photos from their journey.

Once people have shared their journeys they will be entered into a prize draw for a chance to win £1,500 towards their fuel costs*. They will also be able to post their journey to their Facebook wall2 and share it on Twitter by using the #myjourney hashtag. The uploaded journeys will then be collated and analysed for the next stage of the project which will be announced later in the year.
