Human Software Ships PhotoSurface

Photoshop plugin delivers photographic textures By Dave Nagel
Human Software has started shipping a new plugin for Adobe Photoshop, Jasc PaintShop and Corel PhotoPaint. The plugin, PhotoSurface 1.0, is designed to apply photographic textures to images. The current version works with Macintosh and Windows systems running Photoshop 4.0 through 7.0, though it has not yet been Carbonized for Mac OS X. According to Human Software, the OS X version will be released in June.

PhotoSurface 1.0 includes a library of 110 texture effects. Effects can also be combined through the plugin's layering mechanism for variation, and these variations can be combined together on a single layer or on separate layers. Textures in the collection range from sand and wood to glass and leather. Light direction and distortion can be applied to each texture as well.

In addition to the preset effects, any image can be used as a texture tile in PhotoSurface. Other features include:

  • Large preview window in the interface.
  • Thumbnail previews of effects in the library.
  • Effects are "live" and editable until applied to the image.

PhotoSurface is available now for $29.95. For more information, visit
