HubPages Responds to User Requests for Mobility, On-The-Go Access; Introduces iPhone App

(December 02, 2010)

SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 12/02/10 -- One in two Americans will have a smart phone by the end 2011, Nielsen Group reports. Responding to this movement towards near universal access, and to user requests for mobile capability and a closer connection with the HubPages community, HubPages announced today the release of its new iPhone app designed to offer on-the-go interaction to its community of 200,000 active users.

"As the HubPages community grows larger and more engaged in various aspects of the site, we find that they put a premium on participation and communication with each other," says Paul Edmondson, CEO of HubPages. "Our users have long been clamoring for on-the-go, mobile access to the forums, questions and answers, and insight into their traffic from their phones. This app is our effort to give our users the mobile access to community participation that they have long asked for."

One of the most requested features of the HubPages iPhone app focuses on the ability to enhance content creation and community interaction through mobile photo capabilities. The new app offers users the ability to create, upload and post photos taken from their iPhones for use on HubPages; the photos can be stored for future Hub creation, used within existing content, or prompt creation of new content. Users can also post mobile pictures within their questions and answers and kick off a discussion with other users around a photo.

"Given the capacity of the iPhone cameras, we wanted our users to be able to take photographs on the go, store them onto their HubPages profile and use it to either start an article or augment already existing content," says Ren Chin, Vice President of Marketing at HubPages. "Original, interesting photos greatly enhance the articles created by our writers, and help with attracting other readers to the content. We expect the photo capability to be very popular with both our users and our readership."

The iPhone app will also offer users the ability to post to forums, moderate comments and interact with other HubPages users. The app provides users with insight into their account activity on the site and allows them mobile access to the details of the rise and fall of traffic to individual Hubs.

The new release comes soon after HubPages' recent milestone of 1 million articles published on its online platform, a figure made more notable because HubPages asks its authors to create original, magazine-like, interactive content. In turn, HubPages shares 60 percent of the online-ad revenue with its users, making the site the most rewarding place for people to contribute their knowledge.
