House Of Moves Puts Motion Capture Science To Work For CSI: 3 Dimensions of Murder GameBelievable actions characterize cinematic sequences of new PC title (March 23, 2006)
House of Moves completes motion capture for the new PC game CSI: 3 Dimensions of Murder from Ubisoft
CSI: 3 Dimensions of Murder features five all-new cases that can be solved using the latest forensic science. It is the first installment in the line of CSI game titles to bring the gameplay into a fully 3D space, and gives fans crime scene environments, evidence collection tools and interactions that are more like the hit television show than ever before.
Single- and multiple-person capture was done at House of Moves using its 100-camera array of four mega-pixel, greyscale VICON MX40 motion capture cameras. The production and animation team opted to motion capture actors to guarantee the full range of realistic human motion.
“Especially in our cut scenes and ‘reconstruction’ sequences where you see scenarios of what happened or might have happened, the characters ‘talk’ with their bodies rather than with words,” said David Felton, Production Manager, Telltale Games. “Using motion capture allowed us to have our 3D characters communicate through their actions. It was a nice experience working with House of Moves, who had the knowledge and expertise to get the job done.”
“Full-body motion capture allowed us to record a set of specific believable actions. It was great to have Telltale Games in for the shoot, which utilized our VICON MX40 rig, several actors and a range of props – hand guns, jars, knives, textbooks, garbage bags, etc,” said Scott Gagain, Executive Producer, House of Moves.
