Hong Kong Digital Media Centre Opens With Studer

Studer Vista 7?s support new Hong Kong DMC initiative (June 23, 2004)

Two high-end Studer Vista 7s have been supplied and installed in the Digital Media Centre (DMC) multimedia facility in Hong Kong Cyberport. The sale was masterminded by Studers regional distributors, ACE (International) Co. Ltd.

Already operational, Hong Kong Cyberports DMC ? manned by a professional staff on a 10,000 sq ft footprint ? consists of a multimedia lab and video/audio studios. It is being geared to spearhead the development of digital entertainment in Hong Kong, with the HQs of many multinational IT companies already in the area.

DMCs aim is to support content developers and multimedia professionals, although anyone interested in being a part of the creative digital universe can benefit from the facilities and expertise at the DMC. Equipment (such as postproduction facilities and multimedia workstations) is available to rent, allowing graphics rendering and 3D scanning, animation, motion capture, high definition video, and much more to be achieved.

To achieve this high-level infrastructure, the DMC set out to procure feature-rich, ?state of the art equipment. The latest version of Vista 7 was selected as being the most advanced control surface in the marketplace, as well as being intuitive and easy to use. ?Being synonymous with quality, it was felt that the Studer name would enhance the reputation of the facility, fully supported by Daryl Wongs team at ACE, confirmed Studers head of sales, Ian Staddon. ?With DMC providing the facility and technical support, it means that local SMEs can benefit from Studer's high-end equipment at an affordable price.

The Vista 7s have been installed in two studios ? one of which is used for TV production and the second as a surround studio and Post room. The two consoles are similarly-configured, with 40 AES inputs and outputs, 24 analogue line I/Os and 16 mic inputs. A 30-fader Vista, fitted with motorised joysticks, has been detailed for the Surround studio, while a 20-fader Vista has been commissioned in the TV studio.

One Cyberport tenant to take advantage of the Vista 7 in the Surround studio is Naxos, the worlds leading classical music label, with more than 200 releases a year and annual sales running at over six million CDs.

?Naxos is delighted to be the partner of Hong Kong Cyberports Digital Media Centre, giving DMC's clients access to first-class music content. With the outstanding audio technology available at DMCs audio studio, their clients can select and process the music they need for their productions under the best possible conditions, says Mr. Klaus Heymann, Chairman of Naxos. ?Naxos is also thrilled to see that Hong Kong can now offer such a state-of-the-art studio for processing top-class digital sound recordings, mixing and mastering.
