Hollywood Shorts Announces Winners of Animation Awards

Presentations made after short film showcase By DMN Staff Writer
Hollywood Shorts, a monthly short film showcase, announced the winners of its first awards program at the conclusion of its third annual Animation Festival September 30 in Los Angeles. The festival screened 25 traditional cel and computer/digital animated short film and music videos.

The awards are listed below:

Best Animation -- sponsored by NewTek

Eric Anderson, Horses on Mars, USA
Award: Aura 2 Suite -- A video paint system for creating motion graphics.

Best Direction - Animation -- sponsored by Eovia
Jason Wen, f8, USA
Award: Carrara Suite - 3D package for modeling, shading, scene building, animation, rendering, and special effects.

A special Audience Award was to Wayne Lytle for his groundbreaking "Animusic" piece titled Pipe Dreams.

The program featured an award-winning lineup of shorts, including Eat by animation legend Bill Plympton, the wildly popular Hubert's Brain by animation house Wildbrain, and the 2001 Student Academy Award winning Boobie Girl by Brooke Keesling. New shorts were also presented: Preemie by Michael Trull and Rick Ziegler, and Fergie's Fungus, the newest short by David Donar (director of last year's festival favorite SnowPea and Tofu).
