Hollywood Producer Jon Peters Sued for Breach of Contract by California K-9 Academy, a Renowned Dog Training Facility in Burbank

(January 12, 2012)

LOS ANGELES, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 01/12/12 -- As reported by TMZ today, California K-9 Academy, a renowned dog training facility located in Burbank, Calif., is suing Hollywood producer Jon Peters ("Rain Man," "Batman," "Batman Returns," "Flashdance") on nine charges stemming from his refusal to pay a past due bill totaling $21,374 for the long-term boarding of two dogs, named in the lawsuit as "Bear Peters" and "Beau Peters."

The lawsuit was filed on December 9 in the Los Angeles Superior Court by attorneys Kimberly A. Wright, Esq., and Gena M. Simon, Esq. on behalf of the California K-9 Academy. Counts include Breach of Written Contract, Breach of Implied in Fact Contract, Breach of Quasi Contract, Breach of Covenant of Good Faith and Fair Dealing, Common Count of Reasonable Value and Fraud.

According to the filed Complaint, at one point in time Jon Peters had three of his canine companions dwelling at the K9 Academy; one was picked up and two remained for over one hundred days. Bear Peters, an Akita, received Phase III Adult Socialization Training but after the expiration of the contract he failed to pay $50/day. On March 3, 2010, Bear Peters was removed from the K9 Academy by an agent for Jon Peters. Beau Peters, a Doberman Pinscher who was purchased for his minor daughter, remained at the facility for a total of 385 days incurring a boarding cost of $50/day.

On or about June 1, 2011, The Academy sent a letter to the defendant regarding Beau Peters, which stated: "After repeated attempts to contact you, we have no choice but to declare your dog, Beau, a male Doberman as abandoned." Jon Peters gave permission to sell the dog to a new owner. The lawsuit claims over $25,000.00 in damages.
