Hitachi Ships 50-Inch Plasma Display

Screen offers XGA resolution, 900:1 contrast ratio By Dave Nagel
Hitachi today unveiled a new model in its line of plasma displays. The new CMP5000WXU is a 50-inch display with a native resolution of 1,024 x 768 and a contrast ratio of 900:1. It's targeted toward a variety of presentation applications, from conference rooms to signage.

The new model offers a brightness of 340 cd/m2. It displays at a 16:9 aspect ratio and can automatically scale an image to VGA, SVGA, XGA, SXGA and UXGA resolutions. It also includes filters designed to produce natural-looking colors.

The CMP5000WXU is less than four inches thick and weighs 85 pounds. It can also be upgraded with an optional video card for HDTV. The optional card also accepts component, composite and DVI-D inputs. Dual 2W speakers are also optional.
