Hipmunk Launches Train Travel Search Through Amtrak Partnership(September 08, 2011)
San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) September 08, 2011
Hipmunk, the innovative travel search startup, and Amtrak today announce the availability of train trips alongside flight results on Hipmunk.com and through the Hipmunk iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch application. Through this exclusive partnership, Hipmunk is the first and only U.S. consumer travel site to include Amtrak train results with airline segments. Once a train trip is selected, the user is directed to Amtrak.com to book the ticket.
Hipmunk is committed to providing users with all the best travel options, whether it be by air or rail, said Adam Goldstein, CEO of Hipmunk. Amtrak gives me more options to get around, and its especially great to be able to compare flights and trains on the same page.
When Hipmunk users enter either the airport or city code for markets through which Amtrak provides service, train schedules and prices appear alongside flight results. Within the search results, users can see the price, origin and destination stations, departure and arrival times, and any layovers or train changes. A wireless logo appears on WiFi-enabled train results.
We are excited to partner with Hipmunk as this is the first time our train trips will appear alongside flights on travel search sites, said Amtrak Vice President of Marketing and Product Development Emmett Fremaux. With this partnership, travelers will be able to find Amtrak schedules and services, which are available in most major U.S. cities, and compare the affordability and convenience of rail travel with other modes of travel.
To promote the new partnership, Hipmunk and Amtrak today are launching the Train Trak Photo Contest, which will run through Sept. 22, 2011. To participate, users must submit pictures they have taken of trains, train stations, platforms, or themselves on a train or platform via email. On Sept. 23, 2011, Hipmunk will select ten finalists and post the photos to Facebook where users will be invited to vote for their favorite photos. All finalists will receive $50 credit toward future Amtrak travel and the finalist with the most votes will receive $150 credit toward future Amtrak travel.
