Highbrow Magazine Celebrates Its Six-Month Anniversary

(February 28, 2012)

WASHINGTON, Feb. 28, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Highbrow Magazine ® ( is celebrating a successful six-month anniversary online. The magazine, launched in August 2011 by veteran journalist Tara Taghizadeh, is a liberal, general-interest magazine covering News/Politics, Arts/Entertainment, Media, Food and Travel.

According to Founding Editor & Publisher Tara Taghizadeh, "The magazine is focused on featuring the talents of writers who are interested in covering issues and personalities of the day in thought-provoking, intelligent prose."

Popular articles have included journalist Steven Knipp's story on the rise and fall of the Cayman Islands; Mike Mariani's essay about why Joe Paterno's legacy should not be tarnished; art critic Eric Russ' interview with artist Mac Premo; Christopher Moraff's article on the failure of U.S. propaganda in the Middle East; and Maggie Hennefeld's searing look at the writings of the Washington Post's Sally Quinn.

In addition to publishing the works of established writers and academics, Highbrow Magazine is also positioning itself as a leading magazine that seeks to publish the works of new, up-and-coming writers, photographers and artists.

As Taghizadeh explains, "It's important to nurture new talent, and at the magazine, we hope to create a venue whereby talented writers and artists are offered an opportunity to get their works published."

The magazine prides itself on featuring more esoteric topics, not always covered by the mainstream media.

"Our writers have carte blanche to pursue their interests and send in story ideas, and we allow them the opportunity to research and write about topics that interest them," Taghizadeh explains.

The goal of the magazine is to present analyses and points of view not necessarily found in the multitude of publications that comprise the mainstream press.
