Hidden Hearing Respond to Apple Exploring Hearing-Aid Detection in Mobile Phones

Apple has filed a new patent application to introduce hearing-aid detection in its iPhones which will identify if the current device user is wearing a hearing aid, according to Apple Insider.

The aim is for the iPhone to automatically determine whether or not the device is being used by a hearing impaired user who is wearing a hearing aid.

It will introduce a proximity sensor and magnetic field sensor to the phone to detect a nearby hearing aid. The proximity sensor will detect a change in distance of the iPhone to the users ear, while a magnetic field will detect movement of the iPhone relevant to the users ear.

The device will select between normal audio mode of operation and hearing aid compatible mode of operation based on a change in detected distance and movement of iPhone relative to the hearing aid.
