Heuris Rolls Out New 'Pro Indie HD Toolkit'

Latest version gets new MPEG encoder, price reduction By Dave Nagel
Heuris has debuted a new version of its Pro Indie HD Toolkit, a suite of tools for capturing, recording and encoding HD footage using JVC's JY-HD10U camera. The new version sees a drastic price cut--down from $4,785 to $499--and also gains a new MPEG encoder. It will be available in February for Mac OS X and is being shown this week at the Macworld Expo in San Francisco.

The Pro Indie Toolkit is a series of tools developed by Heuris for capturing and working with HD footage. It includes XtractorHDV, a tool for transferring video and audio from JVC's HD cameras to the desktop through a FireWire interface. It allows Apple's Final Cut Pro to import native HDV footage. It also includes XtoHD, a utility used to play an HD file back through a DVHS deck through a FireWire connection. It can also be used to record footage to a DVHS tape. Both of these components are available now as separate purchases. New in the latest release is XportHD, an MPEG-2 encoding utility that replaces the MPEG Power Professional-DTVHD encoder.

The Pro Indie Toolkit will be available in February for Mac OS X for $499. XtractorHDV and XtoHD are available now for $199 and $99, respectively. For more information, visit
