Heavy rain in East, and April snowflakes for someHeavy rains and wind gusts expected in East, and in a few places, April snowflakes
NEW YORK (AP) ' Several inches of rain and gusty winds are expected along the East Coast in what one forecaster calls an atypical storm for April, and some higher-elevation areas could get several inches of snow.
Heavy rain will start in the mid-Atlantic on Sunday and move up through New England. Cooler temperatures could bring snow and freezing rain in the far Northeast as well as the western parts of Pennsylvania and New York.
National Weather Service meteorologist David Stark in New York City says 2 to 3 inches of rain is expected in the city with wind gusts of 25-30 mph.
Stark says the system isn't uncommon for April.
Meteorologist John Darnley says the storm's biggest threat is likely power outages caused by falling trees and limbs bringing down power lines.
