Harris Corporation To Showcase Latest Advancements In Broadcast Server Technology And Storage Protection At NAB2008NEXIO AMP? Media Platform And Intrinsic Mirroring? Technology To Make North American Debut (February 21, 2008)
Harris® NEXIO AMP pairs a high-performance, high-definition/standard-definition (HD/SD) server architecture with best-in-class content protection. Originally introduced at IBC2007 in Amsterdam, the new system combines the highest levels of I/O, data pathway and storage redundancy with all the features broadcasters have come to expect in NEXIO servers ? including integrated software codec support and automatic up/down/cross conversion. Among the platform enhancements on display at NAB2008 will be:
Integrated codec support for the Panasonic® AVC-Intra and Sony® XDCAM® HD 35/50 formats
File-based workflow support for GXF, MXF, Panasonic® P2®, AVC-Intra and Sony® XDCAM® HD 35/50 files
Support for AFD (Active Format Descriptor), which optimizes video aspect ratio conversion for broadcasters migrating to HD
Expanded timecode capability
Closed captioning as file capability
NEXIO AMP also will highlight its ability to host integrated, software-enabled media applications, which allow customers to reduce hardware expenditures and improve overall workflow efficiency. The first media applications to be introduced ? and demonstrated at NAB2008 ? will focus on automation, channel branding, audio track manipulation and multiviewer I/O monitoring.
Visitors to the Harris booth will also be introduced to the patent-pending Intrinsic Mirroring technology, the latest advance in NEXIO storage protection for all SAN-based NEXIO systems. This software-based option, which is now available, leverages the powerful, Emmy®-winning RAIDsoft software RAID technology that is inherent in Fibre Channel connected NEXIO I/O nodes.
Intrinsic Mirroring mirrors all content onto two identical SANs simultaneously during the ingest process ? without the need to replicate or copy the content. Even content that is brought in as a file transfer or is created as part of an editing operation is immediately and simultaneously mirrored to the two SANs. Intrinsic Mirroring works with RAIDsoft to provide 100 percent bandwidth capacity even if one side of the mirrored storage system fails, enabling a platform architecture with no single point of failure.
"The advanced architecture of NEXIO AMP breaks new ground for server feature sets and fault tolerance, resulting in a best-of-breed solution that customers can build their business around with confidence," said Tim Thorsteinson, president of Harris Broadcast Communications. "At NAB2008, NEXIO will once again demonstrate why it is a pre-eminent brand of video server, and why new enhancements such as integrated media applications and Intrinsic Mirroring establish NEXIO AMP as the logical first choice for all channel playout applications ? as well as news and sports production."
NEXIO AMP is among the wide range of Harris solutions that optimize the channel release workflows of today's broadcast operations.
