Harris Corporation To Establish Broadcast Industry's First Interoperability Lab

Company Appoints Media Industry Veteran Reagen Mitchell As Interoperability Manager (February 21, 2008)
DMN Newswire--2008-2-21--Harris Corporation (NYSE: HRS), an international communications and information technology company, will open the broadcast industry's first interoperability lab this month. Based in Toronto, the $2.5 million Harris Interoperability Lab will house 43 racks of equipment spanning every major product line within Harris Broadcast Communications, including server, automation, master control and transmission equipment. Harris Corporation also announced the appointment of Reagen Mitchell to the newly created position of Interoperability Systems Engineering Manager to coincide with the opening of the lab.

"The Harris Interoperability Lab is a unique initiative that highlights the significance of product interoperability in today's broadcast environment," said Tim Thorsteinson, president of Harris Broadcast Communications. "Harris Corporation's investment in the Interoperability Lab will validate and certify the interoperability of our products and technologies with each other and other company products, and the value will be visible to our customers through increased product reliability and the capacity to deliver efficient, tailored solutions that our customers need to stay competitive.

"We are also happy to announce that Reagen Mitchell will oversee the ongoing development of the Interoperability Lab to allow all Harris broadcast equipment utilized in a customer environment to be 100 percent interoperable at the physical, functional and logical workflow levels," added Thorsteinson.

Mitchell comes to Harris from Corus Entertainment, one of Canada's most successful integrated media and entertainment companies, bringing more than two decades of experience in the maintenance of on-air, mobile production and post-production equipment. In his new role, Mitchell will work with Harris engineering, manufacturing, service, and select customers to confirm the lab and its testing methods reflect customer environments. He will manage a team of three technical experts who will use the lab to test, validate and certify the level of interoperability of new software and hardware that Harris designs, builds, or sources. Mitchell will also work with third-party companies that wish to gain a certification from Harris that states their products are compatible and interoperable with Harris products.

Harris Broadcast Communications provides products, systems, and services that deliver interoperable workflow solutions that span the entire broadcast delivery chain. The Harris ONE approach brings together highly integrated and cost-effective products that are ideal for emerging media business models and for customers upgrading media operations to digital and high-definition services.
