Harris Corporation To Demonstrate Array Of New Test And Measurement Solutions At NAB2008

Company Extends Range Of 3 Gb/s Solutions; Introduces New Handheld Devices To STAR? Product Line (February 21, 2008)
DMN Newswire--2008-2-21--Harris Corporation (NYSE: HRS), an international communications and information technology company, will extend its range of 3 Gb/s solutions with the introduction of new HarrisŪ VideotekŪ 1080p-capable test and measurement solutions at the 2008 National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) convention taking place April 14-17 in Las Vegas (Booth N2502, Las Vegas Convention Center). The company also will unveil several new handheld models for various mobile test and measurement applications that extend the STAR range of handheld products first introduced in 2007.

The HarrisŪ VideotekŪ OPT-3GB is a 3 Gb/s video input module for its existing TVM and VTM product range. This module provides the ability to monitor the new progressively scanned, high frame-rate HD formats, including 1080p signals. Inserted into existing TVM and VTM products, the OPT-3GB enables broadcast and cable engineers to monitor very high-bandwidth 1080p signals, which are double the data rate of existing HD formats like 720p and 1080i. With the inclusion of a 3 Gb/s signal source, the module offers an affordable, field-upgradeable solution, and includes a color-bar generator for verifying 1080p signal paths.

Also new is the HarrisŪ VideotekŪ AVM-717-3GB, a versatile, space-efficient and self-contained test and measurement solution that provides a complete video and audio monitoring solution for the broadcast and cable engineer. The AVM-717 supports all existing HD formats including 1080p through 3 Gb/s solutions, as well as standard-definition SDI and optionally, composite analog. The all-in-one solution includes all the functionality of the TVM family, a 17-inch LCD monitor and internal speakers for audio monitoring, with a quick and simple installation and set-up process for immediate operation.

Harris also will build on the early success of its VideotekŪ STAR range of handheld products with the introduction of three new devices, offering a full range of portable test and measurement solutions for broadcast and cable engineers:

ASI-STAR: A troubleshooting device for pinpointing failures and other problems in an ASI transport stream, offering ETR 290 priority 1 alarms and PSIP table information.
GEN-STAR: Expands on the generator capabilities of the HD-STAR, offering HD-SDI and SD-SDI generation, discreet AES audio output, and genlock capabilities through a reference input.
VSB-STAR: A solution for terrestrial and cable broadcasters that provides RF analysis of off-air and cable system signals. Ideal for portable RF performance monitoring at any point in the transmission chain.
Harris will also introduce the VideotekŪ DDM-6800+ demodulator module for its industry-leading 6800+ processing platform. The new module offers 8-VSB-, 64 QAM- or 256 QAM-to ASI demodulation of multiple signals, and provides a low-cost, space-efficient solution for RF-to-fiber interconnectivity in the 6800+ frame system when combined with existing 6800+ modules.

HarrisŪ VTM and TVM products, OPT-3GB modules and STAR handheld products are among the wide range of Harris solutions that optimize the media transport workflows of today's broadcast operations.

Harris Broadcast Communications provides products, systems and services that deliver interoperable workflow solutions that span the entire broadcast delivery chain. The Harris ONE approach brings together highly integrated and cost-effective products that are ideal for emerging media business models and for customers upgrading media operations to digital and high-definition services.
