Harris Corporation Expands ZX Range Of Radio Broadcast Transmitters At NAB2008

(February 21, 2008)
DMN Newswire--2008-2-21--Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and technology company, will introduce the Harris® ZX5000 transmitter for HD Radio™ and analog FM broadcasters at the 2008 National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) convention, being held April 14-17, 2008, in Las Vegas (Booth #N2502, Las Vegas Convention Center). The ZX5000 transmitter is the latest entry in the company's popular range of ZX™ transmitters, now comprising five models ranging from 500 watts to 5 kW of power.

The Harris® ZX5000 offers an unprecedented compact size for a 5 kW transmitter for both analog FM and HD Radio™ broadcasting and comes in a single-rack solution with an exciter and signal processing gear. As with other ZX™ transmitters, the ZX5000 supports tri-mode operation with on-the-fly switching between analog FM operation, HD Radio™ digital-only operation, or FM/HD Radio™ common amplification broadcasting.

The flexibility of Tri-Mode operation simplifies the process of upgrading to HD Radio™ broadcasting, and all ZX™ transmitters are deliverable with one of three Harris® exciters: the market-leading FlexStar(r) HDX-FM for HD Radio™ multicasting; the MicroMax™ analog exciter, a powerful, low-cost 30 watt exciter; and the Harris® Digit® CD, the world's most popular digital exciter, with more than 5,000 units shipped.

The ZX5000 transmitter will ship later this year to domestic and international broadcasters. All ZX™ transmitters are now RoHS-compliant for immediate shipping into Europe.

"The Harris® ZX5000 satisfies broadcaster demand for a compact, high-performance transmitter in the 5 kW power range for both FM and HD Radio™ operation, and offers a cost-effective point of entry to HD Radio™ broadcasting for medium-to-large market broadcasters worldwide," said Tim Thorsteinson, president of Harris Broadcast Communications. "Large market stations have taken notice of ZX™ transmitters as reliable back-ups for high-power transmitters, and the higher power level of the ZX5000 builds on that reputation for large and major market broadcasters."

The ZX5000 can also be outfitted with the Harris® WEB Remote product for control and monitoring over IP. The WEB Remote option is added through an internal circuit board card slot. WEB Remote is also available as a 1RU standalone system for other Harris FM and AM transmitters.

Harris® ZX™ radio transmitters are among the wide range of Harris solutions that optimize the HD Radio™ and analog radio delivery workflows of today's transmission operations for radio broadcasters.

Harris Broadcast Communications provides products, systems, and services that deliver interoperable workflow solutions that span the entire broadcast delivery chain. The Harris ONE approach brings together highly integrated and cost-effective products that are ideal for emerging media business models and for customers upgrading media operations to digital and high-definition services.
