Harman's Floyd Toole to Keynote Opening Ceremonies at AES

Noted researcher on the acoustics and psychoacoustics of sound reproduction By DMN Staff Writer
The opening ceremonies of the AES 111th Convention, taking place November 30 - December 3 at the Jacob Javits Convention Center, will feature a keynote address by Floyd E. Toole, corporate vice president of acoustical engineering for Harman International Industries, Inc.

Dr. Toole is noted for his research on the acoustics and psychoacoustics of sound reproduction, conducted during his 25 year tenure at Canada's National Research Council. At Harman, Dr. Toole oversees the product engineering and evaluation processes. Dr. Toole's keynote, "Audio Engineering - Science in the Service of Art," will focus on how the transformation of listening tests into subjective measurements has been integral to advances in the science of audio.

The address will also feature discussion of the practices of capture, storage and reproduction and the essential role physical measurements play in the design of audio devices. Toole maintains that audio engineering, whether it is in a recording studio or a product design lab, is motivated by a love of music and directed towards providing moving and memorable listening experiences.
