HP Unveils Printers, Print Servers

Wireless print server supports 802.11b networks By Dave Nagel
Hewlett-Packard today unveiled four new inkjet printers and two print servers. The new printers are deigned for small and medium-sized companies and include standard- and wide-format models. The servers allow for wireless or network printing. All of the products are expected to be available at some time today, although information about the printers was not up on HP's Web site as of press time.

New inkjets
The new printers introduced today include the cp1160, the cp1700ps, the cp1700d and the 2600. The cp1160 features two-sided printing, 400-sheet paper capacity (maximum), infrared connectivity and optional networking. The cp1160 is available in configurations ranging from $399 to $599.

The cp1700 and cp1700ps offer wide-format color printing and optional networking. They support media up to 13 inches x 19 inches and optional two-sided printing. The cp1700ps offers additional Adobe PostScript 3 compatibility. They sell for $399 to $599.

The HP Business Inkjet Printer 2600 is also a wide-format printer with PostScript 3 emulation and optional support for double-sided printing. It's designed to be configured with a Jetdirect print server for networking and Internet sharing. ((It has an embedded Web server, which allows for remote management from a standard Web browser.) It's available in configurations ranging from $999 to $1,399.

Further details on the printers were not available at press time. All of the printers support Macintosh and Windows.

Wired and wireless print servers
HP also announced two new families of print servers--the Jetdirect 200-series and thee wireless wp110. The Jetdirect 200m and 250m internal print servers allow users to link to the Internet and share printers. The servers are designed specifically for the HP Color Inkjet Printer cp1160 and cp1700 families and are compatible with printers featuring LIO networking slots. They sell for $199 and $259, respectively.

The HP Wireless Print Server wp110 allows users to share printers via wireless 802.11b networks. It supports Macintosh and Windows and sells for $299.
